For those munchkins with their ears permanently tuned to Radio Disney, Holiday Jams should not disappoint, though it may not send any sugarplums through their heads. Aimed, it seems, at both kids under 10 as well as their boomer parents, the disc features time-worn classics such as Bobby Helms's "Jingle Bell Rock," the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick," Alvin & the Chipmunks' "The Chipmunk Son (Christmas Don't Be Late)," Burl Ives's "Holly Jolly Christmas," and others. More contemporary pieces include the Spice Girls' "Sleigh Ride" and Shedaisy's "Deck the Halls," along with chart rulers 'N Sync in a throwaway number called "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. The Spice Girls remain fairly faithful to "Sleigh Ride," and throughout the album songs are introduced with greetings from Disney's cloying and occasionally annoying DJs. Like the radio programming itself, Holiday Jams is ultimately a slick, well-packaged collection.
Only the miracle of Christmas, it seems, could bring Johnny Mathis and the Backstreet Boys together on one CD. In the spirit of Radio Disney's first holiday CD, Radio City Holiday Jams 2 promises to please preteens (and their parents, too) with an eclectic, even schizophrenic mix of old and new holiday songs. Particularly hipster-rific songs like Hilary Duff's "Santa Claus Lane" (sounds a bit like Liz Phair if you could picture her singing about open sleighs) intermingle with more old-fashioned hits like Burl Ives's rendition of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and Gene Autry's "Here Comes Santa Claus." No Secrets contributes the boppy "Go Girlfriend (Have a Merry Christmas)," B2K revisit "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" with some serious attitude (better not pout, man), and we accompany the Ghost of Christmas Past to witness the Jackson 5 singing "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Forget the sugarplums--this inventive holiday CD will have you and your kids dancing.
With the ever growing popularity of Winnie the Pooh, this is a perfect gift for fans of the loveable, huggable bear. The gang from the Hundred Acre Wood sing ten classic Christmas favorites on this super compact disc.
The cd starts out with a bang with a wonderful rendition of "Deck the Halls," sung by several of Pooh's group. Other outstanding songs include Tigger's awesome singing of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," Pooh's somewhat different version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," and a simply marvelous "Frosty the Snowman."
Whether you are a fan of Disney, or just a lover of holiday music, this is an excellent cd for the holidays. It is sure to bring smiles to your children's faces, and a warm, fuzzy feeling to your hearts. This is wonderful compilation of holiday songs perfect for any household.
